“You are asking the wrong question” she says. “Laundry is not rocket science, it is not magical voodoo, there are no washing machine fairies. Those folks who make adverts they want you to ask ‘what detergent should I use?’ but really you should be asking ‘how come nobody ever showed me how to do this properly?’

“You think just because there are machines they do all the work, and if it isn’t getting clean then the machine must be bad, or you need to use some different sort of soapy gunk. You know what the first washing machine was like? It was a barrel with a paddle to stir the clothes around and you still complain about these ones.”

“Honeybun if you squeeze in all your filthy clothes, all mushed together, in that stinking knot of rage, if you don’t sort them, if you overload the machine, it won’t matter if you have a washing machine designed by NASA, your shit will not get clean, and you will keep buying different kinds of super-science magic fairy dust detergent in the hope that this is the product that will make it all better. Like the man said ‘If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they never have to worry about giving you answers.'”

And then she started in on TV dinners.
