Martha Catherine Ivey

Lure

What caught my eye first about this photo was the way bright, warm colors are sprinkled about the frame — those lovely swells and pops of pink, the flashes of green, all glowing in the evening light.

What invited me to stick around was the lady’s lovely smile, her invitation to stop for a moment and treat myself to something sweet.

If I’d had the pleasure of walking past this booth myself, the place probably would have felt warm, even smelled warm. Later, I’d have noticed the scent of burnt sugar on my jacket, as I swept it onto the back of a chair. And if I hadn’t given in and bought myself a sweet — heck, maybe even if I had — the thought of it would have haunted me pleasantly for days.
