Eggshells

Jagged-edged – you savour the scene, imagining the feel of the smoothly rumpled surface of these shells. The shine of the whites still glistening inside. The delicately painted interior of the white and blue bowl. The inky, out of focus backdrop.

And only then do you begin to count and wonder what happened to that other half shell.
