John Connolly playing at Hull Folk Festival

In the out-of-focus background there is music that I can’t hear.  John Connolly is playing.

I don’t know who John Connolly is.

I could Google him but it wouldn’t help. I can’t hear his music, I can’t see his face, and even if I could it wouldn’t make any difference at all. At this moment I am not remotely interested in John Connolly.

I am intrigued by the man in the cloth cap with flecks of white that sparkle like the kind of summer rain you only get at festivals. I am wondering what he is thinking beneath that cap bedecked with drops of quicksilver. I am wondering what he is hearing, what he is listening to so intently with his head inclined to the side, with his ear, delicate and translucent as an autumn leaf.

I am wondering what he can hear, and how it makes him feel. And now I am interested in John Connolly, out of focus and in the background but essential to this scene.
