I’ve never been to Kaiserslautern. If I had I’d probably know the Stiftsplatz, but not like this.
There is the kind of light that follows rain, when the pavements are polished and glistening and echo the sky. Up above it is dazzling brightness. Down on the rain-mirrored street, it is muted and burnished. There is a symmetry that you can never see on a sunny day. And if you are lucky there will be a double rainbow landing on an onion-domed building and a girl striding across the square. And you will bring it together perfectly with your photographer’s eye.
I have never been to Kaiserslautern but if I ever get the chance I would make a point of going to the Stiftsplatz. Just for the chance of witnessing this.
