odd little house

I’ve got this idea for a little house all of our own.

It won’t be built from bricks and mortar. Instead it will be crafted from love and laughter, constructed in spare moments, along with stolen kisses and moonlit dining on takeaway noodles while the glue sets and the paint dries and the neighbours pretend not to watch as we construct our future together. It will take time but it will fatten and ripen like our love, filling those spaces we never knew existed until we found each other.

It will radiate warmth from the rafters and fat beaming smiles from the walls. It will be our hot beating heart in the winter and our cool summer sanctuary from the heat of the sun.

It will burst at the seams with joy and happiness. And one of these days our grinning children will spill out from the belly of our little house to play on the soft sand outside. We will watch from above, sitting cross-legged on our sunny balcony while the shadows lengthen on our happy little lives.

There won’t be fences or guard rails around our little house, we will be held safe and secure by the limitless boundaries of our family love.
