“Vegas isn’t what it used to be” he said.

“Well it really is,” she butted in “but it’s other stuff too now…”

“All those startups that felt priced out of the Bay Area they’re moving to Vegas. There were these endless rundown areas, sort of seedy parts of the strip” his voice put those words in big inverted commas. “Cheap land, huge investment money, smart people who already know what it looks like out there because they’ve maybe been to DefCon, or just been there because it’s …Vegas.”

“and now California has epic drought, so the desert doesn’t look all that crazy in comparison. And there’s infrastructure, there’s hospitals.”

“So are you going to move there” I asked.

“We thought about it.” he said “we went and checked it out, they’ve really made a cool community, it looks good.”

“At the end of the day” she paused for a moment and took another sip of wine, “we couldn’t do that to our kids.”
