The Latin word “limen” means “threshold.” We use “liminality” to describe a transition between states, or the uncertainty that passes between incident and resolution. We speak of it as a softening of boundaries, while we pass from one micro-existence to another.
It’s a relief not to be needed in every moment. Anyone who’s gazed out the window of a train will understand.
Sometimes we figure things out as we pass through, or we brush webs from forgotten corners of our minds. But sometimes it’s just a matter of keeping on, with the light fading behind us, and knowing we’ll eventually emerge whole.
