Algebra — from the Arabic al-jabr meaning ‘restoration’ or ‘the reunion of broken parts’, a term originally used to describe a surgical procedure to set broken or dislocated bones. Applied to mathematics, the term refers to symbolic proofs of properties that are true no matter what numbers are involved.
Let the red shirt represent stability. Let the green smock stand for fidelity. Let the red socks indicate velocity of motion. Divide an inverted red shirt by a green smock, and you get red socks.
Bones must be broken before they can be rejoined. The mathematics of life requires it. If the red socks fit, you must acquit.
