I been brought down to zero, pulled out and put back there.
I sat on a park bench, kissed the girl with the black hair
and my head hollered down to my heart
“You better look out below!”

And it ain’t such a long drop, don’t stammer, don’t stutter
from the diamonds in the sidewalk to the dirt in the gutter
and you carry those bruises
to remind you wherever you go.

That’s John Prine, ladies and gentlemen, from Maywood, Illinois and Emil Heinrich all the way from…I don’t know, Austria? Maybe? Don’t matter, really. What matters is this: hearts, benches, diamonds, bruises, and taking a damn risk.

There’s a lesson here, for them what’s in need of a lesson. It’s a simple lesson and it applies to just about everything except motorcycles and military duty: take a damn risk.

Take. A damn. Risk.
