Head in the clouds
I know a five year old girl, her name is Maya, every day she helps me put out art materials, every day she makes her art.
She paints, she draws, she uses markers, crayons, pencils. Every day the same picture. It starts with her, a big round head, a small round body, arms and legs. Sometimes there’s also her mom, her dad, her brother, sometimes her teacher, other lucky days it’s me. Some days there’s also a line of butterflies, others there’s a flower.
Always it ends with a blue sky and white clouds. Maya’s a smart five year old so she doesn’t just draw a blue line of sky at the top of the paper. Everyday Maya draws herself and a blue sky but never the sunshine. A blue sky and white clouds it is where imagination begins.
