Beach Trash

Here we are then, edging up to the end of summer. We’ve beached and lemonaded the weeks away; we’ve concerted and baseballed ourselves ragged; and we’ve grilled and fireworked almost all the color out of the last couple of months — and now we’re about done with it.

Some are glad to see summer in the rear view; they’re emotionally ready for autumn and sweaters and harvest colors. But others are already beginning to feel nostalgic for the summer that’s not quite gone. We want to squeeze in one more cold cold beer on a hot hot day; we want to take hold of the scent of coconut butter sunscreen and wrap it around our necks like a scarf; we want one more day — just one more — when it’s too hot to walk barefooted in the sand.

We want our summer to linger just a little longer, we want it to float on — like fireflies with no particular place to go.
