rooster on the roof

Someone — Degas, I’m told — once said “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

Here’s the thing: in the split second it took for me to fall in love with this photo, it never once occurred to me to wonder why there’s a big blue rooster on a roof somewhere. In Therese’s masterful eye, the whole thing makes perfect sense. The balance of color, the vivid framing and focal point, the handheld shift — it’s a pinhole poem, really, a charm yet greater than the sum of its parts. And I’m so very glad I got to see it.
