red truck under live oaks on a cloudy day

They call them live oaks because they are evergreen, they look alive all through the winter. There are days in summer when the humidity is so rich that your whole skin drips. Then you should plan any necessary walk along the routes that are darkly shady all day long; because the places where there are big trees feel like they want to work with you, while the sports fields, and the parking lots, with their chain link fences feel they want to beat your head with angry heat. You plan the shadiest route and flattest route, the slightest slope makes you even more slippery. So you walk under the live oaks. Yes they keep their leaves through the winter but it’s summertime when you truly appreciate them.
