There are autumn leaves everywhere in the northern hemisphere. There are misty mornings, halloween parties, pumpkins and frost.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this time of year – the crunch of leaves beneath your feet, the decaying fungal smell of old beech woods. The inevitable lurch towards the shortest day, the longest night, the darkest hour that comes before the dawn. I simply love it.

But one reason I love it is that before too long, warm summer days will come around again. Brilliant summer sunshine will beckon us outside, or the heat of the sun will find us running for some cool shade.

But that’s a ways away, and this delicate image is both a look back to the summer sunshine and a nod to the wrap-up-warm days of winter that are already upon us.
