This is a sketch. A quick, rough drawing sometimes intended to serve as the basis for a finished picture. From the Italian schizzo (also meaning a sketch) related to the Greek skhedios meaning ‘temporary, extemporaneous, done or made off-hand’ (and NOT in any way at all related to schizo, from the Greek schizein ‘to split or cleave’ so don’t even go there).

Even though this is a sketch it clearly depicts a person of distinction. Somebody industrious, but nonetheless possessing a sensitive nature. Hardworking, but with a carefree spirit and a certain puckish charm. Honest and stalwart, devilishly handsome, yet retaining an air of virtue and modesty.

There is, however, a delicate shading that suggests perhaps the subject is disinclined to wear shoes.
