ゆるりといきましょう。自由にね。

We are drawn to particular photos for a reason. The figure that reminds you of yourself, a year ago.. five years … ten… or twenty five.

The way you leaned back on your hands that day, looking out over the water, with nothing much on your mind. Though it felt like a lot at the time, there were no worries about how to pay the bills, whether the kids would do well in school. Whether you’d even have any kids at all. It was simpler back then. And it was more complicated because your world was full of uncertainty.

What kind of job would you get? Would he ever love you enough to want to settle down with you? Would you ever travel the world, or solve the Density theorem for Kleinian groups? (Now you laugh out loud that you ever thought you could, and you’re glad that someone with a brain that was more mathematical than yours has managed it.) These were the things that were on your mind that day. That muddle of uncertainty, and possibility. Of hope and despair.

Now, when you look back on it, you don’t long to be back there. Not quite. You wish you could experience it all over again while at the same time you breathe a sigh of relief that those days are never coming back.
