Urban Fox

Everything is not alright, but there are still foxes in London. Vixens flitting across the commons like red familiars. Sashaying through Streatham like Saturday night clubbers. New York still has its bullying packs of sooty squirrels, endlessly bickering, constantly panicking. We stay indoors now, they stay outside, as they always did. In Californian cities and suburbs a steadfast multitude of gophers will tunnel a labyrinth, undisturbed by human forks and hoses. The raccoons in Toronto will adopt the empty roads, shamble and dodder across bare parking lots, and with leisurely stoicism they will open up the locked raccoon-proof green bins. Everything is not okay, but every time I see this picture of an urban fox I have a moment of escape.
