Ordinarily, you would not expect to see colours like this in a night sky. But though there was no festival planned, no fireworks set out for lighting later (with the appropriate risk assessment signed off by the chief fire officer), a dazzling light show took place.
Blink and you might miss a flash of light, but though it couldn’t be captured in the photo, the rumble of thunder was unmistakable. And if you listen closely as you look at this image, you might be able to hear it as it fades away.
