Bluebell woods evoke a blood-deep sense of mystery and veiled faerie magic. It’s said…and I’ve never tested this, so I can’t speak to its accuracy…it’s said if you can turn a bluebell blossom inside-out without tearing it, you’ll win the one you love. Seems unfair and unkind to the one you love, but that’s how magic works.

It’s also said…though not by the same people…if you wear a crown of bluebells you will only be able to speak the truth. Wearing a bluebell crown is a faerie punishment.

It’s further said…and I include this with some reservation…that if you pick a bluebell without first asking permission, you will be led astray by the fae folk and wander lost, outside of earthly time, until the fae forget you. They have long memories.

And finally it’s said…and of this I have no doubt…it’s said if you hear a bluebell ring, you will be visited by the something grimdark and wicked, and will soon die.

Bluebell woods are lovely, haunting, ethereal, captivating. Approach them with humility and wonder, with reverence and respect.
