Phoenix Coverley

Bio

I'm a native Californian- probably one of the last. I was raised by artists on a farm in the middle of a small beach town with twenty chickens, 10 ducks, 8 cats, a dog and two roosters. No, the neighbors did not like us but being liked was never a prerequisite to being an artist.

I attended UC Davis and graduated with a degree in Fine Art and a pseudo minor in creative writing- despite all efforts to the contrary- in 1992. At the time my work concentrated on mixed media sculpture that intertwined photography and gender issues (read sex).

After graduating my government funded art bachanalia was over so I turned to the more portable (and cheaper) medium of painting. I've dabbled in it ever since and only recently (with the advent of digital) took up photography again. Still driven by the tactility of sculpture I try to capture light on form in my photography. Barring that, I've always been a fan of the happy accident and take a statistical approach to capturing just that.
