Dharam Kaur Khalsa

Bio

Once I was a graduate of an Ivy League college with a shiny magna cum laude degree in film. The first thing I did upon graduation was turn my back on academia and move into a kundalini yoga ashram. Since then, the diploma has tarnished and my aura has taken over its shine. The closest I got to making films was marrying a video production free-lancer. He went on to make a niche for himself in the industry, while I raised two children and became a dancer, massage therapist, and preschool gymnastics instructor.

The still camera is new to me, but my eyes have long built a habit of noticing beauty and intrigue in the world around me. I live in the middle of the city, surrounded by the artifacts of human dwelling, but maintain a surprisingly close conneciton to the natural world. I am here to learn more about photography as a medium for expression and to play in that nexus of idea, art, vision, texture, culture, and visceral response to nature.
