If you accidentally leave a copper coin next to a slightly leaky alkaline battery then it turns a lovely shade of green. If I remembered anything from school chemistry lessons I could perhaps remember what's in an alkaline battery and guess at what it is. Copper chloride something or other? That's the blue stuff you get in toy chemistry sets, isn't it? Or is that potassium whatchamacallit?
