Saint Martin

Yesterday was the 542nd Foire de la Saint-Martin (St Martin's Fair) in Vevey, a big all-day market. Festivities start on the Monday evening with the Veillée du Boeuf (you could call it a "Beef Wake" when a whole animal is roasted on a spit all night long. The market stalls are set up early in the morning, and around 9.30 there's a procession through town, headed by the standard-bearer of the Confrérie de la Saint-Martin followed by St Martin himself on his white charger, then lots of militiamen in costume, goats, sheep, cows, etc. and all the councillors and various guests. This is the first time I actually saw the procession, arriving at the Grenette, the old covered market. More pics to come.
