memento mori

Liz West

The gravestones in this cemetery go back to the 1700s. The death's head is a frequent ornament, as well as the phrase "memento mori," meaning remember that you, too, are mortal. It's hard to imagine how a stonecarver could have made such flowing curves and lines on these stones. This one was obviously a true artist.
