Jeanne Clancy's Nut Balls

Yummy cookie recipe courtesy of K:

Preheat the oven to 175C / 350F.

In a large mixing bowl, cream until very light in color:
120g (1 stick) of softened butter
240ml (1 cup) confectioners' sugar

Add and mix well:
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
240ml (1 cup) flour
240ml (1 cup) blanched almonds, ground

If the dough is dry, add up to:
60ml (1/4 cup) water

Pat 1 tablespoon of dough into a ball and dip into:
1 large egg, beaten

Then roll into:
240ml (1 cup) pecans, finely chopped

Place the nutballs on a lightly buttered cookie sheet and press into each one:
candied cherries, cut in half

Bake on a rack in the middle of the oven for 15 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a rack to cool.
