The Yard Dog Road Show is a paraphernalia of gyspsy music, ragtag dance, spry circus work, and burlesque showmanship. The fire-eating part of the act is superb, all mystery, pomp, and costumery, held together by real skill.

It's all part of the official lineup at a Red Bull celebration of art, dance, and culture. Their Ascension '06 party at the Brooklyn Sugar Factory in Williamsburg is a randomy night of discovery, art, good fun, and provocation in music, fashion, dance, underground culture, and just plain glorious oddness.

This is Ascension's first time in New York City. I first ran across Red Bull's rambling mysterious brand of party-time in Austin this year, when I became a great fan of the Red Bull Safe House. In fact, a couple of pieces from down there appear up here in Williamsburg.
