Our place in the Universe

In Douglas Adams book; "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" he introduces the reader to the Total Perspective Vortex, a device which shows the relationship of the observer to the whole infinite universe as extrapolated from a piece of fairy cake. This had the result of totally annihilating the observers brain, proving that if one was to live in a universe of this size, the one thing you cannot afford to have is a sense of proportion.
