Charlie card

Liz West

A Charlie card is a resuable ticket that can be used on Boston buses, trains, and subways. It is named after a fictional folk hero, Charlie, who is the main character in a song popularized by the Kingston Trio. In the song, Charlie was forced to live forever 'neath the streets of Boston because he didn't have the surcharge that had recently been imposed. When the Transportation Authority named the card, it showed the only sign of whimsy I have ever seen it show.
