Grandfather's Long Leap medal from 1905

Robert Harper

In 1905 the long jump was called the long leap, and 19ft 10inches is some leap for a young man who worked as a shepherd. He won 10 shillings for that jump. That was before he moved to Argentina and exchanged looking after sheep for herding cattle on the pampas.

The medal is silver and being a soft metal it has two nicks on the lower edge where I have used it to unlock supermarket trollies.

I have not won any medals and for my grandchildren many things will remain unlocked.
