Shelter For The Night

April 5th, 2008 - Carouge, Switzerland

So this is my first ever Utata project photograph - I've been meaning to participate in a project for so long, but never seemed to find the right project at the right moment. This one is for the latest "Nocturnal" project. To get it, I went out just after 10 this evening and wandered around Carouge, the area where I live. It was raining and there weren't many people around, which dispirited me at first, since, let's face it, photographing people is my thing. Then I glanced down an alleyway and saw this hotel entrance, offering shelter from the rain and cold. Fortunately, I found a spot a little further down the alleyway where I could rest my camera - the result was my first ever true long exposure : 8 whole seconds. And I must admit I'm surprised and pleased by the result. I have a few more pictures I'm going to post to the project, but I think this is definitely the best.

Unsurprisingly, this looks best on black.
