Soukka Boat Club

Robert Harper

This a sort of utility building for the Soukka Boat club. Behind it on a small hill there is a larger building which is used for wedding receptions and social events. A flag pole sports a Finnish flag. In Finland flags are flown as reminders of birthdays or momentous occasions. Every yard in an appartment block has a flag-pole and come Runebergs birthday, or independence day the flags will fly.

For some reason I prefer the utility building with its punamulta weather boards. There is something reassuring about wood that is painted red. They stand the test of time. Flags will fly and wooden buildings will be painted red. It is only what you expect.
