Many people today avoid real silver, because they don't like to polish it. In general, it doesn't need polishing much if it is used. Between uses I keep plates and serving pieces wrapped in silvercloth. Still, every Thanksgiving I get out all the silver and give it a quick polish. I enjoy doing it in an unhurried manner, because it gives me the opportunity to revisit some pieces that I seldom see.
