Spilling salt on the table in folklore meant that you would probably get in trouble, or end up in a fight that same day. You could undo that by throwing some salt over your shoulder. Leaving your keys on the table also means bad luck. The origin of this superstition is said to come from Ladies of the Night who worked from Hotels and left a key at the table to show that they were available. I may have to buy a lottery ticket now.
