Erosion
Ian Blum
Is is just me or do the right-wingers these days use the word erosion too much?
"It's the erosion of moral fiber"
"Our values are being eroded"
"we are seeing the erosion of the family unit"
Why do they feel the need to use such strong language. I'm certainly not going to be coherced by a few forceful words. It just seems that if you present a clear logical argument or, dare I say it, present a clear logical SOLUTION to any one of today's social problems we might actually achieve something. Use modern, firm, but easily understood communication in order to affect the widest possible array of human beings, not some puffy, overly-metaphoric jargon that intellectuals can see through and layman are confused by.
Language is a useful tool no doubt, but it can be overdone, it can act against you, illuminating your true intentions while masking the real problem behind a veil of fear.
Let's just hope we can survive the next few years under the wing of the Conservatives. We won't come out unscathed but maybe we can keep the erosion of Canadian freedoms to a minimum.
