The Herndon Building; one of the city's early office complexes for African-American professionals. It was built in 1924 by Alonzo Herndon, a former slave who founded the Atlanta Life Insurance Co. In 2003 the Atlanta Preservation Center placed it on its list of most endangered structure. The March, 2008 tornado damage was the final blow as the building has been torn down.
