The Botticelli Beggar

axel stevens

View On Black - Large

On my way back to the trainstation (I was in the city of Antwerp, this saturday morning and returned from the market on the square in front of the city theatre) through the drizzlin' rain I was in fact not thinking anymore of taking any more photos till my eye caught this praying beggar on the wet street amidst some dead leaves and I wanted to photograph him.I had to.Now normally, I just don't stop and take photos of beggars or people begging because I find that disrespectfull, if I do so take a picture, I always give some small change in return...I did so on this occasion to. It was the least I could do.
The scene of the man sitting there reminded me of a piƫta painting or a devout saint painting by botticeli.
