What's going on out there?

Liz West

I took a walk along the Assabet River in Maynard. It runs behind some low-income housing, where a group of tenants feeds wild birds. Now the birds come right onto the lawn, almost fearless if you keep your distance. I sat down on a step as soon as I saw them, and within a few minutes they ignored me. However, they remained fascinated by a flock of ducks practicing take offs and landings nearby.
