The Alabama State Capitol building

J Stratton

The picture of this and the Dexter Ave church were taken from the same spot. The building served as the Capitol of the Confederacy in 1861. Some 102 years later George Wallace stood in the exact spot where Jefferson Davis was sworn in as President of the Confederacy and famously declared:
"In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever."
