Saint Praise

Linus Gelber

I'm up in Boston for my annual pilgrimage to the 24-Hour Science Fiction Film Marathon, which hits its 35th anniversary this year. I've been going, on and off, since SF7, and I guess it's the kind of love that would be happy to speak its name, but when you do people get all nervous and shifty and they try to sit somewhere else.

When I can spare the time and money, I like to go up a few days early and lark around the city. I still have a few old friends up there, and I always intend to contact Flickr folks and other Net types to get together. Somehow there's never enough time to sort out time correctly, and so instead I spend a day or two walking around with the camera, shooting what there is to see.

This is the church of Saint James the Greater, home - according to the sign - of Boston's Chinese Catholic Community. I've shot the face of the church in the windows of the Tufts School of Medicine, which is situated across the street - I like the way the Tufts fluorescent office lights double as halos to the saints.
