An Outrage of Tulips

Linus Gelber

The plan for today is lunch in Williamsburg with an old friend, but that is postponed to next Friday. With the weather so lovely, I welcome the chance to make my first visit of the year to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Spring flowering is early this year, and the cherry blossoms are already past peak. The tulip beds are in splendor.

If I have the terminology right, the collective noun for tulips is the generic "bunch." As in, "a bunch of tulips." This is just lame. Given how brilliant the flowers are, I have a couple of suggestions for a better one. I'm thinking either "outrage" or "longing."

An outrage of tulips. A longing of tulips. What do we think? Anyone? Bueller?
