I'm sure that when I was first in Kyiv in 1993, there was a T34 here (it was on the number 5 tram route*, back then) but this is just so much better: even the plinth - surely one of the most static words in the world - has a certain dynamism...


*I had decided to retrace not so much my steps as the product of my handful of kopeks or carbonets and find where I had stayed in a ground floor of a kruschevka somewhere in the west of the city. I was still on track here, I think, but later the road forked and I didn't know which way the tram - the only way I had of finding the block - had gone. One for another trip maybe...
