Rehearsal (Measure for Measure)

Linus Gelber

I'm at rehearsals for the upcoming performance of Measure for Measure for only a quick half hour - there's a publicity emergency in progress, so I step up to help out - and we spend the time well, flexing through a few staged moments and trying to make sure everyone gets a moment in front of the lens. Except for Connie, who somehow escapes.

Stephanie Dodd plays Isabella to Tommy Piper's Angelo in the show, which opens at the Stonington Opera House on Deer Isle up in Maine. I'm sorry I won't be there to see it in performance. But if you're in Maine, you should go!

Rehearsal room light - an uneasy mix of fluorescents and incandescents, inartfully beaming down from above - is always a bit tricky; we end up with a few images that I really like, which has mostly to do with the ease of the actors and their good instincts in bare surroundings.

Measure isn't my favorite Shakespeare play, but it is one of the ones I see most often. It's funny how that works out. I'll count this as my Thursday Walk for this week - a tradition more honored in the breach, these days.

I'm in transit between the old slowly-fading computer, where my photo-processing gear lies, and the new box, which is ramping up well. Except for the part where my system drive started shaking itself apart last weekend - always fun! - but we've got that squared away now. I've been a bit sparse with posting, and I'm hoping to hit a new groove and learn some new software soon.
