The Eureka Moment

Linus Gelber

Actors David Bennett (standing) and Tommy McGinn (not so standing) play techno-nerd fans Stef and Trink in Struck, by Rebecca Hart and Robert Saietta, in performance at H.E.R.E. Their broad-stroke characters may be familiar to readers of Sheakespeare's "The Tempest."

Mall rats by day and hero podcasters by night, Stef and Trink are fans of folk-rock idol Beth Prosser, and their on-the-spot interview with the object of their adorations sets the major events of the play in motion. Here they discover that their jury-rigged contraptions actually do allow them to take telephone calls in the course of their live podcast. Now, who could be on the line?

(Sharp-eyed viewers familiar with car appliances may note that those "microphones" are unlikely to ever transmit sound.)
