african daisy

Paul Pomeroy

This past winter we had an unusually cold few days here. At its coldest, the overnight temperature dropped to 11° F (-11.6° C) and, as a result, most all of the plants here were badly damaged (or killed). Among the fatalities were all of the potted plants I'd just put in a few months earlier. This time I spent a little more time looking for plants that could stand bright sun (and high temperatures) as well as low temperatures. There wasn't much to choose from, unfortunately.

All I really found were these African Daisies which can take full sun for 8+ hours, can be watered about three times a week (instead of daily) and will withstand 20° F cold snaps. Luckily, the flowers are really quite nice and they'll work well as potted plants.
