Tölpel, Clumsy Fellow

Today I saw a sad sight of not 1 but 2 gannets washed up dead on the beach. This one, the smaller of the two was wearing a necklace of seaweed.

I've never seen one of these beautiful birds before, either dead or alive. They are cliff dwellers and there are no cliffs nearby. It's a puzzle why they were here and why both died to be washed up 100 metres apart
