Stark City

Linus Gelber

With spring just beginning to finger the city, Jess and I spend a day exploring Red Hook. The Erie Basin is much less eerie than it once was: the old upside-down-funnel ruins of the sugar refinery have been taken down, and the sunken lightship that used to rest on the Basin floor at this spot has been dismantled and removed.

Soon the ruins of the piers will be gone as well. It's probably for the best - there's no reason for this kind of space to sit and molder, unused and decaying, when it could be turned into a place for people, rather than ghosts.

Still.
