Mixing with the Shadows

Linus Gelber

Flash Flash Bang Boom, the new collaborative play by the Circle Theater of New York, is performed in the round, and each of the corners of the stage space is furnished with a backlit screen.

As the characters who make up the three couples of the story move through their lives in the foreground, the action is punctuated by mute shadowy silhouettes that dance, frolic, kiss, salute, undress, and generally illustrate - in concert or counterpoint - the foreground scenes.

Here Stevie, an uncertain and troubled young man who wrestles with his loneliness, poses before one of the screens.
