Cherry Overcast

Linus Gelber

The flowering cherry trees along the Cherry Esplanade in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden are in first bloom, weeks before they are usually even considering painting the town pink. Some of the more adventurous trees are in full bloom; others are even finished flowering for the season.

And here most of us haven't even filed for our taxes.

There's some rain early in the day, and for much of the rest of the afternoon the sky is all bluster, threatening wet but ultimately keeping its own counsel. Occasionally we get a splash of sun to liven up the groves. After I shoot for a couple of hours and the afternoon is getting on, the clouds are a present companion.
