Ken Lunders

These two fawns were part of a group that had 4 more fawns and 3 does that I saw. These two eventually walked up the hill on the right a short ways. The rest stayed on the left, foraging below the trail.

As I approached I thought these two would scamper back across the trail to be with their mother & friends. They were fearful and hesitant, so I stopped and then backed up to give them more room. That didn't work.

One began to mew like a cat! I've never heard a deer make a sound like that before. I was amazed and charmed at the same time, but that wasn't helping the situation.

Their mom came up to the trail, took a look at me, then walked across to the fawns and escorted them up the hill a couple of yards. They remained there until I had passed and then walked back across the trail and down the side of the hill to rejoin their companions.
